Generally speaking, a totalitarian political regime is a way of maintaining and organizing relationships between a government and the citizens, which is characterized by a strong control of a state over all (or the majority of) spheres of life, especially social and political ones; repressions against those who oppose the officially proclaimed political course and those who refuse to support official ideology; closeness of the political system to changes, reforms, and new personalities; low levels of political culture and civic consciousness; manually-controlled economics and the absence of a free market; intolerance and hostility towards opinions and ideologies different from those approved by the totalitarian regime; militarism.
